Cultivating Inner Safety through Polyvagal Theory, Somatic Experiencing, Somatic IFS, and IFS
Updated: Sep 12

Many people come to therapy feeling like they “know” they’re safe, but their body doesn’t believe it. Heart rac
ing, tight chest, trouble sleeping, or feeling on edge can all be signs that the nervous system is still living in survival mode. My work weaves together Polyvagal Theory, Somatic Experiencing, Somatic IFS, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help your body and mind finally get on the same page.
Polyvagal Theory: understanding your body’s signals
Polyvagal Theory helps us understand how your nervous system shifts between states of safety, fight/flight, and shutdown. Instead of seeing your reactions as “overreactions,” we view them as your body’s best attempt to protect you. In therapy, we gently track these states together so you can recognize when you’re activated and learn how to come back to a sense of grounded safety.
Somatic Experiencing & Somatic IFS: listening to the body
Somatic Experiencing and Somatic IFS invite us to slow down and notice what’s happening in the body—sensations, impulses, and subtle shifts. Rather than pushing feelings away, we create enough safety for your system to release stuck survival energy at a pace that feels manageable. This body-based work helps you feel more present, less overwhelmed, and more at home in yourself.
IFS and parts work: healing from the inside out
Internal Family Systems (IFS) sees you as made up of many “parts” that each have a role—protectors, exiles, and more. When we combine IFS with somatic work, we don’t just talk about your parts; we notice how they show up in your body. Over time, your protective parts can relax as they experience your Self as calm, compassionate, and trustworthy. This creates more space for secure attachment, deeper connection, and a felt sense of inner safety.
When we integrate Polyvagal Theory, Somatic Experiencing, Somatic IFS, and IFS, we’re not just treating symptoms—we’re helping your whole system reorganize around safety, connection, and Self-leadership. If you’re in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, or Florida and this way of working resonates with you, I’d be honored to support you on your healing journey.
